The National Coaching Accreditation Programme (NCAP) is the national standard for coaching qualifications. The programme takes care of your educational needs as a coach by providing courses to upgrade your coaching skills.
NCAP consists of two fundamental components:
NCAP Theory - a series of lectures on the fundamental principles of coaching and Sports Science and is conducted by Singapore Sports Council (SSC) appointed lecturers.
NCAP Technical - workshops/lectures on sports specific skills, techniques and strategies in coaching as well as coaching attachments organised by the National Sports Associations (NSAs). Click here for a list of NSAs with NCAP technical programme.
NCAP Theory and NCAP Technical courses comprise three learning levels. A complete and recognised certification at each level of NCAP is attained only with the completion of both NCAP Theory and NCAP Technical at the relevant levels, e.g. an NCAP Level 1 coach will have both NCAP Theory Level 1 and NCAP Technical Level 1 certifications.
The NROC is a database of NCAP certified or accredited coaches who have valid and current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR.
Coaches who are members of the NROC are expected to keep their coaching knowledge and skills updated through continuous participation in various upgrading activities that will help them keep current in their coaching techniques and methods. The SSC has initiated the Continuing Coach Education (CCE) Programme to help coaches achieve this.
The NROC is therefore a fraternity of certified, competent and professional coaches, who subscribe to the Coaches' Code of Ethics. More importantly, the NROC is a mark of quality assurance to the general public at large.
