Key Speaker:
Joseph Hamill, PhD, is Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts where he has been on the faculty for the past 20 years. He received a B.A. from York University, Toronto, a BS from Concordia University, Montreal, and both an M.S. and Ph.D. in biomechanics from University of Oregon. In addition, he received a teaching certificate from Lakeshore Teachers College in Toronto.

Dr. Hamill's research interests are focused on lower extremity biomechanics during normal and pathological locomotion. His current projects include studies on coordination variability in the determination of overuse injuries and the interaction of biomechanical and biochemical factors in ligamentous injuries. He has authored over 85 research papers and over 90 research proceedings. He has also presented over 130 papers at both national and international conferences. Dr. Hamill has written several chapters on the biomechanics of the lower extremity for edited books. He has also co-authored of a book on terms and definitions in Exercise and Sports Science and is co-author of a biomechanics text for undergraduate students and one for graduate students. Dr. Hamill is a member of numerous organizations including the American, Canadian, and International Societies of Biomechanics and the American College of Sports Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, the Research Consortium, the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports, the Canadian Society of Biomechanics and the Academy of Kinesiology. Professionally, he has served on the Executive Boards of the New England Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine, the International Society of Biomechanics, the Canadian Society of Biomechanics and the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports. Dr. Hamill is a member of several editorial boards of professional journals and reviews for all major professional biomechanics journals. He has been an invited speaker in many countries around the world (e.g. Austria, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, Portugal, Spain, Italy, New Zealand). During his academic career, he has mentored more than 20 doctoral students.
