Speakers' Profile:
Mark C. Stephens is the current Product Development Manager at Finis Incorporated, a California-based company known for being the worldwide leader in technical swimming development. Finis is on the cutting edge of swim innovation and Mr. Stephens was hired to help manage and continue to develop its line of unique swim products.

More specifically, Mr. Stephens is in charge of designing, engineering, and successfully releasing new products for Finis. He researches with local swim schools, works with Olympic coaches, and trains daily in order to have a greater understanding of what the swimming world needs next. Most recently, Mr. Stephens aided in the development and release of the Forearm Fulcrum, the Underwater Pace Clock, the Digital Pace Clock, and the next generation of the acclaimed SwiMP3 player.

Mr. Stephens has been involved with swimming for the past 19 years, both competing and coaching at the national and age-group level. He started swimming summer league at the age of 4 in Atlanta, GA. Then at the age of 6 he joined the Dynamo Swim Club and started training year-round. He continued to compete in high school, where he was an Academic-All American and 4-time Georgia State Champion (400 Med. Relay, 400 Free Relay, 200 IM, & 100 Br). Mr. Stephens still continues to hold several school and county records.

At the age of 18, Mr. Stephens achieved his first U.S. Senior National Time Standard and started swimming on the Stanford University Men's Team. While at Stanford he made the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trial Standard, and was crowned 2004 U.S. Senior National Champion in the 200 IM (2:04.34 lcm). He then went on to compete and final at both the Men?s Pac-10 and Men?s NCAA Championships.

Additionally, Mr. Stephens received All-American honors for his efforts in the 200 IM (1:45.27 scy), 400 IM (3:45.94 scy), and 200 Fly (1:45.03 scy), and was named Team Captain by his peers during his Senior year at Stanford.

Mr. Stephens attended Stanford University from 2002-2006 where he obtained a BS degree in Product Design Engineering.


Jack Simon (Coaching Biography)
  • 46 years as Head Coach, 1959 to retirement in 2005
  • Currently consulting to Penang Swimming Association, Malaysia
  • Last position: Head Coach, Selection Jalisco, Director of Swimming for the Jalisco State Government and Director of Swimming and Head Coach for Club Guadalajara (Chivas) 2000 to 2005
  • From 2000 to 2005 his Jalisco teams have won three National championships, broken 18 National records, won over 60 Gold Medals at four National Youth Games and set 52 State records.
  • 2007 Inducted into American Swimming Coaches Hall of Fame
  • Over 25 years on U.S. National Coaching staff
  • ASCA Level V
  • Life Member: United States Swimming , Inc
  • Life Member, American Swimming Coaches Association

  • Chief Coach FINA/OCA Bangkok, Thailand 2005 Talent Identification Program
  • Coached Penang State team for the 8 weeks prior to the Malaysian Games leading them to 11 medals, 7 of those Gold.
