Celebrate and Honour
| Your Coach, Mentor, Friend |

He drills you to perfect that tennis backhand.
She inspires the team to stay focused and play as a seamless unit.
He pushes you to shave two seconds off your personal best in the freestyle.
She spurs the team on with words of encouragement and a "never-say-die" attitude.
September 11 2009 is a special day to honour and recognise the contributions of sports coaches in Singapore. Besides imparting essential sports expertise, skills and knowledge, they have become both our mentor and friend with their sound advice and unwavering support in our sporting life.
From a high performance swimming coach to a Learn-to-Play inline skating instructor or even a parent who passionately volunteers his time to coach a junior soccer team, we want to applaud their selfless dedication and efforts.
We salute these spirited heroes for their passion and commitment to shaping the athletes of our future and ultimately, to shaping a Sporting Singapore. Take this opportunity to show your heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to your coach, who is also your mentor and friend. Regardless of whether you are an individual, a team or even a sports association or club, brighten up your coaches? day this September 11 with a simple word of thanks, a pat on the back or surprise them with a meaningful celebratory event.
It does not matter how or where you show your appreciation as long as you make their day!
The Singapore Sports Council would like to wish all our coaches a Happy Coaches Day!

| About Coaches Day |
 |
Coaches Day is an initiative of the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) to raise the level of recognition accorded to coaches nationwide for the significant role they play in the holistic development of their athletes. Announced by Mr Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, on 8 September 2007, Coaches' Day will be held on the second Friday of September each year to encourage Singaporeans to express their appreciation to their coaches in their own special way.
Coaches are the driving force behind the development and success of their athletes. No athlete, no matter how talented, can achieve success without the guidance and support of their coaches.
"We hope to send out a very strong message to all coaches in Singapore: that you are important to our Sporting Singapore vision, and we value your contributions," said Mr Teo at the launch of Coaches' Day.
Coaches' Day is also supported by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).
